I remember Trent playing something similar in Sound City and he used Iceverb or the other blue verb in Guitar Rig 5; if you get the film in something like 1080p, you can see his Mac with the verb pedal and Matched Cabinet AC Box.

Re: NIN LIVE equipment
Anyone know what Trent's fiddling with live in the beginning of "Copy of A?" Can't tell if it's an actual tabletop acid synth, or just a controller?

Re: NiN Sounds Research (a.k.a. "How do NIN make that sound?" )
I've always been curious about the crash sound in Down In It. It starts at the chorus. Has anyone ever tried reproducing it? If so how? It's probably not that difficult, but I've never been able to do it in Ableton or anything.

wayne_furter posted:I have this pedal in my rig. I don't use it to imitate NIN sound, BUT, I tried for fun haha. I use it with an equalizer (boss GE7, 'cause this pedal NEEDS an EQ to be controlled, believe me), going into a custom Matamp (so, nothing to do with JMP1), and I can easily get close to the sound of Robin Finck on the last tour, songs from The Slip in particular.

Hey wayne!
It would be great if you could youtube us a few nin riffs with that pedal

Re: Korg Microkorg vs. Alesis Micron for a beginner
I agree with VX. I bought a Micro Korg as my fist "synth" and I'm underwhelmed. It seems to me it's more of a techno-ey, dance club remix kinda style synth. The keys are small too, so it's not even very good for a MIDI keyboard. I'm going to keep mine to learn on, seeing I'm just getting into synths and digital recording, but once I get better it'll take up residence in my closet most likely! Save your money and get something that's a bit more versatile!

Help with Novation Nio 2/4
So I have an issue and I don't know where else to turn. I got a Novation Nio 2/4 Audio interface so I can try my hand at digital recording. I installed the software and updated to the most recent drivers. During setup I can get the unit to show that the signal from my guitar is going in, due to the volume bars lighting up. However, after watching several setup videos from Novation themselves, I can't for the life of me get Novation Live lite 8 to recognize the Nio. I set up Live with ASIO and the ASIO driver. Set the input and outputs to Nio 2/4 and nothing. Tried setting up the latency adjustments and it asks for you to set the tone volume to -48hz and turn on the test tone. I get nothing, no sound at all. Anyone out there familiar with either Live lite 8 or the Nio, or computer recording in general? I'm using a PC, which here on the NIN boards is probably taboo, but it's what I could afford so it's what I have to work with. PM with any advice if you'd be so kind. I'm thinking that either A: My computer isn't set up right, Live lite 8 isn't set up right, or the Nio is damaged....going nuts trying to get this figured out and I'm not terribly computer literate...so any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Re: Korg Microkorg vs. Alesis Micron for a beginner
The Micron was my first hardware synth, and I truly love it. The interface is minimalist but very usable once you learn it. There are a lot of neat shortcuts + 3 encoders that are very easy to assign to parameters. There is also an excellent software editor (though not for free).
I also have the MS2000r which is the Micro Korg with knobs :) But knobs can't save it from being severely limited. Only four notes of polyphony and an extremely limited modulation matrix.
On the other hand, the modulation matrix on the Micron is *extremely* flexible, and in general it has more of everything compared to the Micro Korg.
Oh, and regarding limited interfaces - don't be fooled by "lots of knobs". For example the Access Virus B has lots of knobs - too bad they only cover 50% of the functionality, so you will have to spend a LOT of time clicking menu buttons. No neat shortcuts there..

Does anyone knows how to make the Rythm synth behind the guitar riff in 10000000? I love how it integrates with the distorted (or bit crushed) riff. I Think that is the same synth used by Robin in the Tension tour.
Please help! :P

Recruiting NIN fan remixes for radio segment.
Hi everybody, it has been a while since I've posted here.
My friend Matt is doing a whole month of NIN related segments on his radio show in March, to celebrate NIN/QOSTA's tour Down Under and he has asked me to help gather fan remixes to be played!
I've posted this in the NIN Remix group on Soundcloud that I run, but it seems that nobody sees those posts. (https://soundcloud.com/groups/nine-inch-nails-nin-remix/)
If you have submitted your remixes there, please email me details (rivetlicker@yahoo.com.au) of the track you want played and I will pass you Matt's details. We require MP3s at 320k.
I've started this early because it will take some time to gather remixes. If nobody submits anything, I'll go through the group and pick my own favourites, and hopefully you will all get the memo that I'm pinching it! :)
Thanks in advance!

Alessandro Cortini solo show in Sydney last night. (4Mar14)
Hello everybody!
Every last dream of mine came true last night. I got to see and meet the wonderful Alessandro Cortini in my city! Suddenly, gig.
It was presented by a modular synthesizer collective/meeting group called New Sound Waves (a play on New South Wales). Check them out here: [nswaves.tumblr.com]
Alessandro was supported by three acts, two groups and one solo. The first group, -1/Patches/Benjamin Kinsman, played a rhythmic set with melodic flutters and slow beats which was mostly improvised. The second group was a two piece called Semiotic Ghosts, whom played a very progressive drone set. The third act was a solo Gareth Psaltis and I cannot say his set was a drone at all; it was in fact, a very progressive techno set (I normally hate progressive), but I couldn't stop moving in my seat. I wanted to dance, and I wasn't the only one thinking that. It sucks that it was a seated event and there was actually no room to move. Maybe next time, there will be dancing room for those who want to move.
In the intervals between set up, I managed to talk to Alessandro (and his lady, we chatted about Sydney, animals, video games, compared tattoos, and Alessandro even gave me a restaurant recommendation, a place where a guy he grew up with runs, close to my place too), and a few others, including the visual editor for the evening, Cobramatic. His visual were fed from loops of footage with numerous filters on them, and camera pointed at the artists playing. They visuals were very strobe-like and intense, to go with the rhythmic pulses and movements.
11PM came and Alessandro took his spot. I was too enthralled with the sound to take any photos whilst he was playing (also, it was dark and flashes aren't appropriate). He played these beautiful, melodic drones. I sat there in an intense state of trance, I could feel the dopamine running through my brain. I thought I was going to reach euphoria from just the sounds (who needs drugs?!?!?!). Everything didn't matter, I even lost interest briefly in seeing Nine Inch Nails tomorrow night and the rest of the shows I'm going to. Everything was THEN AND THERE.
I had my come down today. It was like an absolute abyss of emotional turmoil that one would experience when withdrawing from drugs. Okay, it was probably because I was withdrawing from my SNRI and forgot to take it until late this evening. I feel a bit more enthusiastic about tomorrow, now.
Ok, here are some photos.
Set up and gear.
And obligatory photo with the artist himself.
And the tattoo comparison. Emilie took a photo of both our arms and said she'd post it to Instagram, but she hasn't yet, not sure if she will, but it was a funny moment. I have the fractured NIN logo on my right arm, and he mentioned he really liked the design more than the original logo. That's exactly why I got it done.
My right arm (photo taken when it was fresh).
I hope to go to a New Sound Waves meet some time, just as a spectator :)
10/10 would do again.
