Love this thread glad it's alive again.
Few things i have discovered throughout the years.
First when trying to dissect NIN sounds ( at least Fragile back and really in general)You can ever approach it from a Vst standpoint.
Now a few things i am pretty certain about.
The "crash" sound from Reptile. People seem to be under the idea that it is a slowed down gong sample.
I have experimented and think that it is a custom patch from a Oberheim xpander with lots of reverb. The patch is similar to the THX deep note.
Oscillators at different turnings coming together. The sound could be done easily on a swarmatron but back them could also be done easily on the Xpander.
Also i think The Dx7 was used more than perhaps maybe thought.
At the end of Came Back Haunted there is a synth line that sounds very Dx7 like but i think it probably is either again an Xpander or a Phrophet 12 using FM and sync (i know hes been using both from IG posts)
